Your beginner guide starts here

Mead making for beginners: start with the right setup

Mead is a fermented drink made with honey, water and yeast. The basic recipe in our kit starts with simple pantry ingredients, including bread yeast. Read the supplied Queen Bee recipe for the complete ingredient list and directions.

1. Understand the equipment

The Deluxe Mead Making Kit includes a one gallon glass carboy, airlock and stopper, funnel, bottle wand, cleaning powder, auto siphon, hydrometer, test jar and guide. These tools support fermentation, measurement and transferring your batch.

2. Gather the separate supplies

Honey, yeast and bottles are not included in the Deluxe equipment kit. You will also need water. The supplied Queen Bee recipe uses bread yeast and includes fruit and spice options. Read the full recipe before shopping so you have every ingredient and the bottles you need.

3. Read before you brew

Read the supplied guide and your recipe all the way through. Check equipment cleaning and sanitizing requirements before use. Follow the instructions for your equipment and cleaning products.

4. Plan for fermentation

Use the appropriate airlock and follow your recipe’s process. Fermentation produces gas, so do not seal an actively fermenting batch in a closed bottle. Readiness depends on the recipe and fermentation conditions; a calendar alone cannot confirm that a batch is ready to bottle.

5. Make it a learning project

Keep notes on your recipe and measurements. If you are unsure about the equipment or kit contents, ask before ordering. For fermentation or bottling questions, consult the guide and a qualified brewing resource. We are here for you at lets.talk@boldiland.com. Follow applicable local rules.

This short guide helps you prepare. Use the supplied kit instructions for your recipe and brewing process.

Meet Bold I’Land

We’re Rae and TC, a husband-and-wife team in out-state Minnesota, and we believe the old ways are worth bringing back.

That’s where our mead making kit comes in. Mead is a traditional fermented drink made with honey, water and yeast. We hand-assemble every kit so you can try making your own at home, no experience needed. It’s a hands-on piece of tradition you can share around your own table.

The same belief drives our small-batch beef tallow. Our great-grandparents cooked with real fat, so we hand-render every jar of grass-fed and Wagyu tallow the way it used to be done. One ingredient. No fillers. No shortcuts.

We put our name on everything we make, and we stand behind it.

Real Food. Elevated Flavor. No Compromise.

About

Good questions. Quick answers.

Is the mead kit a bottle of mead?

No. This is equipment for making mead at home, not a ready to drink alcoholic beverage.

What do I need to supply separately?

Supply honey, yeast, water and bottles separately. Your first mead can begin with familiar pantry staples: honey, bread yeast and water. The kit’s Queen Bee recipe includes fruit and spice options, so read the supplied recipe for the full shopping list. Simple to make. Fun to share.

Can I give the kit as a gift?

Yes. It suits someone interested in a hands on brewing project. Make sure they know that ingredients and bottles are separate.

Where can I ask a product question?

Email lets.talk@boldiland.com for help from our family team with kit contents, choosing a tallow or an existing order. Include your order number for order questions, and keep payment details out of your message.

How can I use beef tallow?

Use it for cooking projects such as roasting potatoes, frying eggs or searing steak. Follow the product label for handling and storage.

What is the difference between the two tallows?

Both are pure, single-ingredient beef tallows, hand-rendered in small batches with no seed oils, fillers or additives. Grass-fed is your everyday kitchen workhorse for eggs, smashburgers, cast iron steaks and roasted vegetables. Choose Wagyu when the meal is the occasion: a ribeye, golden potatoes, a holiday roast or a gift for someone who loves to cook. Both jars are 14 oz (397 g). Still deciding? Start with the meals you cook most often, or email lets.talk@boldiland.com for help from our family team.

How do delivery and returns work?

Shipping options and costs for your address appear at checkout. We are a small family business and stand behind our products. If something is not right, contact lets.talk@boldiland.com with your order number. Return eligibility, exclusions and instructions are set out in our return policy.
